Pen over colour drawing

I wanted to give my drawing a more graphic effect and give more detail. I used cross-hatching to create tone.

Shoreditch colour pencil sketch

As I was drawing the view, I decided I wanted to include the overground trains that passed over the bridge opposite from my drawing point because of the bright orange colour. I decided to take a methodical aproch to drawing the train. A train would pass roughly every 4 mins, and as one would pass I would add a little bit more of the detail for the couple of seconds as it passed by. After about 20 mins of drawing I had 5 chances to draw the train with enough colour and detail and I was done.

Creating new drawings from previous works

I decided to use two drawing I had made of Trafalgar Square and use tracing paper to make a new lager composition.

Architecture-The National Gallery

During my drawing class at the National Gallery we were set the tast to include the amazing architecture of the gallery in our drawings.
This at first seemed an easy task, but when I try to draw the curved dome ceiling I found It very difficult to get the scale correct.
I felt drawing the ceiling became a very mathematical task to get the correct amount of windows, arched beams and intricate details.
On the third attempt I did seem to finally get the hang of drawing the deceiving dome shape.

Shoreditch street art portraits

These three street art portraits caught my eye because of how bold and colourful they looked bringing the cold concrete walls to life.

All three were on the same strech of
wall but stand apart from each other showing off different styles.

The first portrait shows a great amount of detail & blends the woman's hair into the speckled background.

The second uses stencils over colourful tones to create the image of a soldier. This creating a crisper cleaner finish.

Lastly the use of contrasting clouds, red on black, tonally makes the image jump out at you. I think this is a typical pop art aproch to creating a portrait.

Meeting Prince Charles

I was fortunate enough to meet Prince Charles at The Royal Drawing School in Shoreditch.

I was able to show him two of my pen drawings, one of which being a drawing of St.Paul's as depicted below.

Prince Charles empathized with how hard it must have been to get the curve of the dome roof drawn accurately.

I was pleased he was so impressed with my drawings.

Funny photography

When out at a pizza restaurant in shoreditch I happened to notice a fire engine parked outside across the street and that there seemed to be a real fire in the building behind!?

But at closer inspection I realized that the 'fire's was really an illusion of the reflection of the fire from the stone pizza oven in the window...

Perspective Photography & cloud study

I wanted to emphasize the height of the Leadenhall building by getting the roadside railing in the foreground of the shot. By angling my camera up the railing and up towards to top of the Leadenhall building I was able to show off the height. I also love the way the building and clouds almost fade together.

London homage to Anne Kullaf's painting

I wanted to create my own version of Anne Kullafs Urban landscape bridge oil painting. I decided to use Tower bridge for my subject as a primary source which I will later be able to use for my own work. This is a my photo of tower bridge along with a picture of Anne Kullaf's painting.

Photography Cloud study

I had to capture the sun setting behind my school art block because of how rarely colourful it looked, with the vibrant orange tones in the clouds. This reminded me of Turner's style of painting.

Cloud study

Constable & William Turner (National Gallery London)

In the first two Turner paintings I like how the light is seen through the misty clouds up in the sky as the sun sets.  To me this creates a much more realistic feeling of depth.

In the Constable painting I like how the clouds look so bold a create a heavy impression over the landscape of the rest of the painting

Sun set from Tower Bridge-Photography

In these photos I wanted to show off the vibrant colours.
Whether it be from the contrasting orange & blues in the sky line, or the boldness of the city lights against the dark of the early night.

Photography-London at dusk

I wanted to look at structure in my photography so I would be able to work from my photographs easily.
I wanted to incorporate the overhanging tree branches to make the photograph structure better and also more intriguing to the eye.

Urban landscape-London

I wanted to add more detail to a quick water colour painting I had made in Trafalgar Square. By photocopying my paintings I was able to use ink pen to draw technical details on top.

Recreating Lindsey-Kustusch's oil paintings

1. Pencil drawing of 'The Old Plant,  Deep Ellum, Texas'- oil painting

I selected this painting because I liked how lifeless and desolate the painting looks and makes me feel. The building is made to look run-down, dirty and rusty with the use of the browns in selected area like the windows. Some of the windows are missing and the brown smudges created a great impression of the rusting exterior walls.

2. Oil pastels drawing of 'Heading Downtown'-oil painting

The chiaroscuro of the oil painting emphasises the depth and length of the street.
